According to Volkswagen, up to 2% of the recalling SUVs may have connecting rod defects that allow debris into the engine oil circuit, which can lead to engine stalling, oil leakage, and even fire.

Owners of the Audi Q5 and VW Atlas are advised to cease driving and have their cars repaired if they are experiencing excessive engine noise or engine warning lights. Defective engines will be replaced without charge by Volkswagen Group because this problem affects cars that are still covered by warranties.

Owners of the Audi Q5 and VW Atlas will begin receiving mail-out letters in December; in the interim, they may use their VIN number to check the NHTSA website to see if they are affected by this recall.
