For 20 years Hovanes has built and led a California law firm focused exclusively on lemon law, dealer fraud, and automotive class actions, recovering $400M+ for clients across 6,000+ cases.
Hovanes earned his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of Southern California in three years, receiving the highest departmental awards for two consecutive years. He earned his Juris Doctor from the USC Gould School of Law, where he concentrated his studies on business and corporate law, real estate law, property law, and California civil procedure.
While still in law school, Hovanes co-founded a nationwide automobile sales and leasing brokerage. That direct experience inside the automotive industry, including how manufacturers and dealers operate behind the scenes, became the foundation for the law firm he would later build. The Margarian Law Firm was founded in 2006 on a deliberate choice: rather than build a general practice, Hovanes focused the firm exclusively on consumer protection in automotive cases.
Hovanes has litigated cases against virtually every major vehicle manufacturer operating in the California market, and has been lead attorney on automotive class actions, including high-profile defect cases involving Tesla and other manufacturers.

Hovanes built the Margarian Law Firm around the idea that California consumers deserve representation with deep automotive industry knowledge, not just general legal experience. Twenty years of focusing exclusively on automotive consumer law has produced familiarity with how each major manufacturer handles defense in California, which directly benefits the clients the firm represents.
Manufacturers and dealers track which firms file lawsuits and which ones settle quickly. They know which firms can afford to take cases to court. The firm has built a reputation in the California automotive litigation market that affects what manufacturers put on the table at the negotiation stage.
