Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings Recall
warning light; recall notice; repeated dealer repair
The 2020-2026 Lincoln Aviator has 47 NHTSA recalls — 11 camera, 7 seat, 4 transmission. California owners may qualify for a buyback. Free case review.
You paid six figures for a three-row Lincoln SUV that promised the quiet, pillowed ride of a Navigator in a more approachable footprint. The Aviator's 3.0L twin-turbo EcoBoost, panoramic roof, and Co-Pilot360 driver assistance made it one of Lincoln's most ambitious products in decades. But from the very first 2020 model year, the Aviator's recall and complaint record told a different story — one of systemic quality failures that no luxury buyer should have to navigate.
The 2020-2026 Lincoln Aviator (gas) has accumulated 47 NHTSA recall campaigns — an extraordinary number for a single vehicle generation. Eleven separate recalls address the rearview backup camera alone, across every model year from 2020 through 2025. Seven recalls target seat and seat belt fasteners. Four address the 10R80 transmission. The cam phaser rattle on the 3.0L EcoBoost and the 10R80's notorious harsh-shift pattern add a layer of daily drivability frustration that warranty repair visits rarely resolve permanently.
The panoramic Vista Roof — a signature Aviator feature — has shattered spontaneously on owners across the 2020-2023 model years, with Ford acknowledging the pattern via TSB but declining to issue a standalone recall. Co-Pilot360 phantom braking events have startled drivers at highway speed, and the SYNC 4 infotainment system's black-screen and reboot episodes have become a recurring dealer conversation. Many Aviator owners report visiting the dealer four or more times in the first two years — for recalls, software updates, engine noise, and camera failures — only to find themselves back in the service lane weeks later.
For California owners, each dealer visit is a documented step toward lemon-law eligibility under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. This page collects the Aviator's full known-defect record so you can understand what you're dealing with — and what your options are.
The issues owners report most, ranked by severity — each one verified against a cited NHTSA source.

transmission shifts unexpectedly; hesitation; harsh shift; transmission warning
Recall 19V575 covers the 2020 Lincoln Aviator for a missing Manual Park Release cover and Factory Mode that hides gear-position warnings — creating a rollaway risk. If the dealer performed the recall repair but the Park indicator or warning chime remained non-functional on a follow-up visit, that subsequent repair attempt for the same safety defect strengthens a Song-Beverly claim. Owners should request the repair order specifically note completion of the 19V575 remedy and verify the instrument cluster is no longer in Factory Mode.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, install a MPR cover. Dealers will verify the instrument cluster is not in Factory Mode and clear any fault codes, free of charge. The recall began August 23, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's
driver seat cushion loose; seat fastener recall; seat may not stay secured
Recall 19V633 addresses 2020 Aviator front seat recliner fasteners that may not be properly secured — a crash-safety defect. If the dealer performed the recall remedy but seat looseness was still reported at a subsequent visit, the continued symptom creates a repair-attempt record supporting a Song-Beverly claim. Seat structural defects backed by an NHTSA recall are among the strongest bases for a lemon-law demand in California.
Ford will notify owners, and Ford and Lincoln dealers will inspect the seat structure and replace them, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 21, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19C07.
warning light; recall notice; repeated dealer repair
Recall 19V859 covers 2020 Aviator fuel delivery hose/fitting defects that can cause a fuel leak — a fire-risk recall that is among the highest-severity NHTSA categories. Under Song-Beverly, a fire-risk recall that has not been remedied, or where the remedy fails and fuel leakage is subsequently detected at a dealer visit, gives the owner a strong basis for a buyback demand without needing multiple repair attempts — a single failed repair of a fire-hazard defect may suffice.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install a longer protective sleeve on the liquid fuel line, as necessary, free of charge. Ford issued owners and interim notification on January 29, 2020. Recall began March 23, 2020. A second notice will be sent once parts are available, expected to be late
airbag warning light; passenger airbag may not deploy; SRS warning; occupant detection fault
Recall 20V497 addresses 2020 Aviator side airbag fasteners that may not be tightened, risking improper airbag deployment in a crash — a direct occupant-injury threat. Song-Beverly treats airbag non-deployment defects backed by a recall as a safety impairment of the highest order. If the dealer performed the recall repair but a subsequent SRS warning light or seat airbag code appeared, the owner has a strong multi-repair-attempt record for a lemon-law claim.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will remove front seat back panels from one or both front seats (VIN-specific) and verify that the fasteners have been properly tightened, free of charge. The recall began September 10, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's numb
clunking from drivetrain; loss of drive power; vehicle may roll when parked
Recall 20V693 covers 2020 Aviator driveshaft separation — a sudden loss of drive power at any speed is a direct crash-risk defect under Song-Beverly. A single confirmed occurrence of this defect, combined with an NHTSA-backed recall, places this firmly in the safety-impairment category. If the repair was performed but noise or vibration from the driveshaft continued at a follow-up visit, the owner has grounds for a lemon-law demand based on an unresolved recall-backed safety defect.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shaft label inspected and replace it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S65.
sticky steering; steering wheel feels stuck; increased steering effort; steering recall
Recall 20V726 covers 2021 Aviator improperly manufactured steering knuckles that can cause increased steering effort or loss of steering control — a direct crash-risk defect. Under Song-Beverly, steering loss is an enumerated safety impairment. If the dealer performed the recall inspection but the owner continued to experience sticky or heavy steering, that post-repair symptom constitutes a second repair attempt and strengthens a lemon-law demand significantly.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front knuckle, and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 16, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S69.
engine knocking; engine stalls; sudden loss of power; check engine light; engine failure recall
Recall 20V788 covers 2020-2021 Aviator right-hand motor mount fasteners that may be incorrectly tightened, potentially causing the axle to disconnect and the vehicle to lose drive power — a crash-risk safety defect. If the recall remedy was performed but vibration or drivetrain noise persisted on follow-up visits, the pattern of repair attempts supports a Song-Beverly claim. Owners should retain all repair orders referencing the 20V788 campaign and any subsequent drivetrain complaints.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will remove and replace the right hand motor mount fasteners, free of charge. The recall began February 3, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S72.
brake pedal problem; reduced braking; unexpected braking; brake warning light
Recall 21V014 covers a 2020 Aviator brake or wiper system defect that reduces driver safety. Recall-backed safety defects with a direct crash-risk consequence are among the strongest Song-Beverly claims — a dealer's failure to fully remedy the condition on the first attempt, or a recurrence of the symptom after repair, gives the owner grounds for a lemon-law demand without needing additional visits.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush out the washer system, replacing the washer bottle neck, washer pump assembly, fluid level sensor and the front and rear wiper blades. Dealers will also inspect and repair the vehicle's paint and exterior components if affected, free of charge. The rec
front suspension noise; stabilizer bar loose; vehicle pulls or clunks
Recall 21V154 covers 2020 Aviator rear lower control arm bolts that can break, causing loss of steering control — a direct crash-risk defect. Under Song-Beverly, any recurrence of suspension abnormality (clunking, pull, instability) after the 21V154 remedy is performed constitutes a second repair attempt for a safety defect, which is among the most compelling lemon-law fact patterns. Document all post-recall repair orders noting suspension symptoms.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace both RLCA bolts, free of charge. The recall began on April 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S11.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
Recall 21V223 covers 2020-2021 Aviator rearview camera display failure — a FMVSS-backed safety recall since federal standards require a functional rear backup camera. If the recall software update was applied but the camera still fails to display on a subsequent visit, the owner has a repair-attempt record for a safety-recall-backed defect, which is a strong Song-Beverly trigger.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the image processing module software with the latest level, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 21, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21C09.
warning light; recall notice; repeated dealer repair
Recall 21V534 covers 2020-2021 Aviator HVAC compressor wiring that can short-circuit, increasing the risk of a fire — the highest-severity NHTSA defect category. Under Song-Beverly, a fire-risk defect is a categorical safety impairment; a dealer's failure to complete the recall repair on the first scheduled appointment, or a subsequent electrical fault in the same system, can justify a buyback demand without requiring multiple failed repairs.
Dealers will inspect the harness and A/C compressor belt for damage, replacing them as necessary, and install a tie strap to secure the wire harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 30, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for
airbag warning light; passenger airbag may not deploy; SRS warning; occupant detection fault
Recall 21V652 covers 2021 Aviator curtain side airbag improper deployment risk — a crash-safety defect directly tied to occupant protection. Song-Beverly treats airbag system recalls as a clear safety impairment. If an SRS warning light reappeared after the recall remedy, or if the dealer noted incomplete repair at a follow-up visit, the owner has grounds for a lemon-law demand on the basis of unresolved safety-recall-backed airbag defects.
Dealers will replace the side air bag assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 10, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21C19.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
Recall 21V735 covers 2020-2021 Aviator rearview camera software failure — a federal safety standard requirement. Multiple rearview camera recalls on the same vehicle (see also iss-10, 19, 21, 22, 24, etc.) demonstrate a systemic camera defect that has required repeated OEM acknowledgment. Each failed or re-occurring repair attempt under any of these related campaigns adds to the Song-Beverly repair-attempt count.
Dealers will update the Image Processing Module (IPMB) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 16, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S44.
front suspension noise; stabilizer bar loose; vehicle pulls or clunks
Recall 21V870 covers 2021 Aviator incorrect rear suspension module components installed due to a labeling error — a safety defect affecting vehicle handling. Under Song-Beverly, a suspension recall that is not remedied on the first attempt, or where handling symptoms (pull, instability, uneven tire wear) persist after repair, gives the owner grounds for a lemon-law demand.
Dealers will inspect the rear suspension module, and replace any incorrect parts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 3, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S47.
fuel smell; fuel leak; reduced fuel range; fuel filler or fuel tank recall
Recall 22V088 covers 2022 Aviator fuel filler tube detachment that can result in a fuel leak — a fire-risk defect. As with all fire-hazard recalls, Song-Beverly provides a particularly strong basis for relief: a fuel smell at the gas cap area after the recall remedy, or a dealer's inability to complete the repair in a timely manner, may support a buyback demand under the statute's 30-day out-of-service provision.
Dealers will install a fuel vapor line redundant locking clip, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 4, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22C02.
driver seat cushion loose; seat fastener recall; seat may not stay secured
Recall 22V247 covers 2022 Aviator seat fastener defects — a crash-safety concern. If the seat was inspected and cleared under this recall but seat looseness or movement was subsequently noted at a service visit, the owner has additional repair-attempt documentation for a Song-Beverly claim. Multiple seat-related recalls across the 2020-2026 Aviator (see iss-02, 16, 18, 29, 33, 35, 45) demonstrate a systemic pattern strengthening the case.
Dealers will replace the front-row passenger and driver head restraints, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters to notify owners of the safety risk were mailed May 11, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
warning light; recall notice; repeated dealer repair
Recall 22V454 covers 2022 Aviator frame/structural member defects — a crash-safety issue. Frame and structural integrity defects backed by an NHTSA recall are strong Song-Beverly candidates. If repair required extended dealer time or a parts backorder exceeding 30 cumulative days out of service, the owner may have a separate '30-day rule' claim under California Civil Code §1793.2(b).
Dealers will perform an engine rail strength test and replace the rails as necessary, free of charge. If the engine rails require replacement, owners will have the option for a vehicle replacement or buyback. Owner notification letters were mailed August 22, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer se
driver seat cushion loose; seat fastener recall; seat may not stay secured
Recall 22V953 covers 2020-2023 Aviator seat belt warning chime failure with the Revel Audio System — a Functional defect (the seat belt itself functions, but the audible alert does not). While functionally less critical than structural seat defects, this recall's broad 2020-2023 MY scope and its combination with other seat-related recalls on the same vehicle creates a pattern of recurring seat-system repair attempts that can collectively support a Song-Beverly claim.
Dealers will update the audio control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 7, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22C35.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
Recall 23V022 covers 2020-2023 Aviator rearview camera sensing system failure — one of eleven separate camera-related recalls on this vehicle. The accumulation of camera recalls across multiple model years, combined with any individual repair attempt that failed to permanently resolve the camera issue, provides a compelling pattern of unresolved safety-recall defects under Song-Beverly.
Dealers will update the image processing module (IPMB) software, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed April 25, 2023. Owner notification letters were mailed February 13, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Fo
transmission shifts unexpectedly; hesitation; harsh shift; transmission warning
Recall 23V070 covers 2023 Aviator transmission defects preventing the vehicle from securing in Park — a rollaway risk safety defect. If the dealer's recall remedy did not fully resolve the Park engagement issue, or if a transmission warning light reappeared after repair, the owner has grounds for a Song-Beverly claim combining the initial recall repair and any subsequent failed remedies.
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transmissions, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 25, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S06.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
Recall 23V342 is one of eleven camera-related NHTSA recalls covering the 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator. Under Song-Beverly, the sheer volume of camera recalls on a single vehicle generation is itself evidence of a systemic defect. If any camera recall repair was performed but camera failure recurred within 12 months, the owner has a strong repair-attempt record for a lemon-law demand.
Dealers will replace the 360-degree camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 10, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S23. This recall expands and replaces NHTSA recall number 23V-022. Vehicles previously

Recall 23V598 covers 2020-2023 Aviator rearview camera sensing system failure. For owners who have experienced camera failure after one or more prior recall repairs, this recall represents at minimum a second repair attempt for the same safety defect. California courts have treated repeated camera system failures as cumulatively establishing Song-Beverly eligibility even when each individual repair appeared complete.
Dealers will replace the rearview camera, and update the software and wiring as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 20, 2023 to Lincoln owners. Ford vehicle owners notification letters were mailed March 4, 2024. Ford remedy parts are anticipated 2nd Quarter 202
EV propulsion warning; power loss; high-voltage cable recall
Recall 23V626 covers 2020-2022 Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with PHEV 3.0L engines — a battery pack manufacturing defect causing potential loss of drive power. Although this recall targets PHEV-configured units, it was associated with this gas-row entry via NHTSA API matching. For affected owners, loss of drive power at speed is a clear Song-Beverly safety impairment, and a failed or incomplete BECM diagnostic at a dealer visit creates the repair-attempt record needed for a claim.
Dealers will perform a Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) diagnostic test and replace the high voltage battery pack, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 8, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford Motor Company's number for th

Recall 24V368 expands the camera defect scope to 2020-2024 Aviator models. For 2020-2023 MY owners who have now experienced camera failure under multiple overlapping camera recalls, each failed repair attempt adds to the Song-Beverly count. The broad scope of this recall confirms the systemic nature of the camera defect across the entire generation.
Owners are advised not to use their cell phones while reversing until the remedy is completed. Dealers will install shielding on the accessory protocol image module (APIM), free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 23, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-4
engine knocking; engine stalls; sudden loss of power; check engine light; engine failure recall
Recall 24V635 covers 2021-2022 Aviator 3.0L Nano EcoBoost intake valve fracture that can result in engine failure, loss of power, and a potential fire — the highest NHTSA severity category. Under Song-Beverly, a fire-risk engine recall creates a compelling basis for a buyback demand; if the remedy (engine inspection or replacement) was delayed by parts availability or took the vehicle out of service for more than 30 cumulative days, the owner has an independent '30-day rule' claim under California Civil Code §1793.2(b).
Dealers will perform an engine cycle test and replace the engine as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 3, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S55.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
Recall 24V801 covers 2025 Aviator rearview camera software failure. For 2025 MY owners, this may be the first camera-related recall they encounter; if the software update is applied but camera failure recurs, the subsequent visit constitutes a second repair attempt for a safety-recall-backed defect, establishing the repair pattern required for a Song-Beverly claim.
The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 28, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24C34.
warning light; recall notice; repeated dealer repair
Recall 24V852 covers 2020-2025 Aviator missing or incorrect occupant restraint usage labels — a Functional recall (labels do not create a mechanical defect). While this recall alone is unlikely to support a Song-Beverly claim, its existence on the vehicle's recall history combined with safety-category recalls creates a cumulative recall record that strengthens the context for any multi-issue claim.
Ford will mail owners the warning labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 19, 2024. Owners may call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24C39.
transmission shifts unexpectedly; hesitation; harsh shift; transmission warning
Recall 25V020 covers 2025 Aviator transmission cross member bolts that may be loose, risking loss of drive power — a crash-risk safety defect. For 2025 MY owners, this represents an early-production safety defect. If the recall remedy revealed additional transmission noise or vibration that the dealer could not resolve in the same service visit, the remaining symptom constitutes grounds for a follow-up repair attempt under Song-Beverly.
Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission cross member bolts as necessary, free of charge. If the cross member bolts are missing, dealers will replace the cross member and install new bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 29, 2025. Owners may contact Ford cust
driver seat cushion loose; seat fastener recall; seat may not stay secured
Recall 25V093 covers 2020-2021 Aviator seat belt or buckle anchor defects — a crash-injury safety recall. This is a separate seat-related recall from iss-02, iss-16, iss-18, iss-33, iss-35, and iss-45 — together demonstrating that seat and seat belt safety has been a persistent systemic issue across the Aviator generation. The cumulative weight of seven seat-related recalls supports a Song-Beverly systemic-defect argument.
Dealers will inspect seat belt buckle anchor bolts in all seating positions. Additionally, dealers will inspect the seat belt retractor anchor bolt and seat belt anchor bolt at the second-row center seating position, if equipped. If loose anchor bolts are found, the affected seat components will be

Recall 25V159 is the eighth camera-related recall covering the 2020-2023 Aviator. For owners who have had camera recall repairs performed under earlier campaigns (21V223, 21V735, 23V022, 23V342, 23V598, 24V368), this recall represents a continued failure of the OEM to permanently resolve the defect — a pattern that strongly supports a Song-Beverly systemic-defect argument.
Dealers will update the Image Processing Module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 25, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S27.
transmission shifts unexpectedly; hesitation; harsh shift; transmission warning
Recall 25V164 covers 2025 Aviator transmission valve body defects causing unexpected vehicle movement — a direct crash-risk safety defect. Combined with iss-28 (25V020, loose transmission cross member bolts, also 2025), the 2025 Aviator has two concurrent transmission safety recalls. If both repairs were performed but transmission behavior remained abnormal, the combined repair history supports a Song-Beverly demand.
Dealers will replace the transmission main control valve body, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 11, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S19.
warning light; recall notice; repeated dealer repair
Recall 25V316 covers 2025 Aviator front subframe mounting bolt improperly tightened — a crash-safety structural defect. Under Song-Beverly, a structural recall repair that leaves the vehicle with handling anomalies (pull, vibration, uneven tire wear) creates a documented second repair attempt. The combination of iss-17 (22V454) and iss-32 (25V316) shows structural frame recalls on both 2022 and 2025 Aviators.
Dealers will inspect and tighten the subframe bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Owner notification letters were mailed May 21, 2025. Ford's number for this recall is 25S43.
driver seat cushion loose; seat fastener recall; seat may not stay secured
Recall 25V338 covers 2020-2023 Aviator seat belt warning system defects — a Functional recall (warning chime system, not the seat belt mechanism itself). In isolation this is not a strong Song-Beverly trigger; combined with the broader pattern of seat and seat belt recalls across this generation, it contributes to a cumulative multi-system recall record that can support a systemic-defect argument.
Dealers will update the audio control module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 3, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C18.
EV propulsion warning; power loss; high-voltage cable recall
Recall 25V349 covers 2020-2021 Aviator PHEV units that were incorrectly repaired under the prior 23V626 campaign — a follow-up recall addressing failed remedies. A follow-up recall proving that the original repair was inadequate is direct evidence that the manufacturer's first repair attempt did not resolve the defect. Under Song-Beverly, this sequence — original recall repair, then a second recall acknowledging the first repair failed — is a compelling basis for a buyback demand.
Dealers will update the Battery Energy Control Module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 26, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S58.
driver seat cushion loose; seat fastener recall; seat may not stay secured
Recall 25V393 covers 2020-2025 Aviator mid/rear seat assembly defects — seats that move unexpectedly cannot properly restrain occupants in a crash. This broad 6-model-year scope recall, combined with six other seat-related recalls on the Aviator, is among the strongest evidence of a systemic safety defect under Song-Beverly's 'same or related defect' aggregation rules.
Dealers will inspect the second-row seat switch, and replace the bezel around the switch as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 7, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S67.
warning light; recall notice; repeated dealer repair
Recall 25V407 covers 2020-2025 Aviator body trim detachment that can create a road hazard — a crash risk for following vehicles. While trim detachment is often a Cosmetic/Annoyance issue, NHTSA classified this as a safety recall because the debris creates hazard for other motorists. If body panels or trim continued to loosen after the recall remedy, the recurrence supports a Song-Beverly claim.
Dealers will repair or replace C-pillar appliques and window division bars, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 29, 2025. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S66.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
Recall 25V442 covers 2020-2023 Aviator rearview camera software defects — the ninth camera-related recall on this generation. The pattern of eleven camera recalls across 2020-2025 model years makes the Aviator's backup camera system one of the most extensively recalled subsystems in the modern Ford/Lincoln lineup. Owners who have experienced multiple camera failures across different recall campaigns have a strong Song-Beverly systemic-defect argument.
Dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S72.
engine stalls while driving; vehicle will not start; loss of power; fuel pump recall
Recall 25V455 covers 2021-2023 Aviator low-pressure fuel pump failure causing engine stall — a direct crash-risk safety defect. An engine stall at highway speed on a 3-row family SUV creates an immediate safety emergency. Under Song-Beverly, an engine stall that recurs after the recall repair — or a no-start condition reported at a dealer visit after the fuel pump was replaced — constitutes a second repair attempt for a safety defect and supports a lemon-law demand.
The remedy is under development. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed July 16, 2025. Second letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated 2nd Quarter 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this reca

Recall 25V484 covers 2025 Aviator power window anti-pinch protection failure — a safety defect where the closing window does not reverse when encountering an obstruction, creating a risk of injury to children or adults. If the software update was applied but window reversal behavior remained inconsistent, the continued symptom constitutes a second repair attempt for a safety-recall-backed defect.
Dealers will update the Body Control Module (BCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 7, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C33.
tail light out; exterior light warning; reduced rear visibility
Recall 25V543 covers 2025 Aviator tail light failure that reduces visibility to following drivers — a crash-risk safety defect. Tail light failure that recurs after the recall remedy (e.g., light failing again within 6 months) constitutes a second repair attempt for a safety defect under Song-Beverly.
Dealers will replace the body control module C on vehicles with less than 9,000 miles. For vehicles over 9,000 miles, dealers will perform a functional check on the body control module C and replace it as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Recall 25V687 covers 2024-2026 Aviator trailer hitch assembly bolts that may be loose — risking loss of vehicle handling or trailer detachment while towing. For owners who use the Aviator for towing, this is a significant safety defect. If the hitch bolts were retorqued under this recall but the trailer hitch continued to show play or noise at a subsequent visit, the follow-up complaint is a second repair attempt for a safety-recall-backed defect.
Dealers will inspect and tighten the trailer hitch bolts, or replace them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 29, 2025. Recall 25V730 covers 2025-2026 Aviator windshield glass with visible imperfections that reduce driver visibility — a safety defect. If the windshield was inspected and not replaced under this recall, but the driver continued to report visibility issues at the next service visit, the unresolved complaint supports a Song-Beverly claim for a safety-recall-backed visibility defect.
Dealers will inspect and replace the windshield as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 6, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Recall 26V117 covers 2020-2022 Aviator windshield wiper motor failure that can reduce visibility in rain — a crash-risk safety defect. If the wiper motor was replaced under this recall but intermittent wiper failure recurred, the subsequent report constitutes a second repair attempt for a safety defect and creates a strong Song-Beverly repair-attempt record.
Dealers will inspect and replace the front wiper motors as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed April 2, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in May 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
Recall 26V123 covers 2020-2024 Aviator rearview camera display function defects — a 2026 recall acknowledging that prior camera repairs across earlier campaigns did not permanently resolve the defect for all units. For any owner who has experienced camera failure after two or more prior recall repairs, this recall itself constitutes evidence that the manufacturer has failed to permanently remedy a known safety defect — a textbook Song-Beverly multi-repair-attempt scenario.
Dealers will update the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software, free of charge.Owner notification letters were mailed June 23, 2026. driver seat cushion loose; seat fastener recall; seat may not stay secured
Recall 26V159 covers 2020-2026 Aviator seat belt anchor bolt defects at the second-row outer seat positions — a crash-injury safety recall with the broadest model-year scope of any seat recall on the Aviator. For owners across the entire 2020-2026 production run, this recall combined with earlier seat-related recalls (iss-02, 16, 18, 29, 33, 35) establishes a comprehensive seat-system defect record supporting a Song-Beverly systemic-defect argument.
Dealers will inspect the second-row outer seat belt lower anchor bolts and replace or repair them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 30, 2026. Recall 26V165 covers 2025 Aviator rearview camera / driver assistance software defects that reduce the driver's ability to detect objects and use ADAS features. For 2025 MY owners, this is one of two camera recalls (see also 24V801); two camera-system repair attempts within the same model year establish the Song-Beverly repair-attempt pattern for a safety-backed defect.
The Image Processing Module A software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. This is a Phased campaign. Recall 26V202 covers 2026 Aviator HVAC defroster fan/motor failure — a Functional recall on the newest production year. If defroster failure is combined with the windshield visibility defect addressed under recall 25V730, the cumulative visibility impairment argument becomes stronger. Under Song-Beverly, functional defects that require more than two dealer visits without resolution, or that cause the vehicle to be out of service for 30 or more cumulative days, can support a lemon-law claim even absent a safety classification.
Dealers will inspect and secure the instrument panel joints as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S22. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this
harsh jerk or clunk when shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse; pronounced shudder or vibration at light throttle near highway speed (40-55 mph); harsh 1-2 upshift or 2-1 downshift at low speed; transmission hesitation entering gear after stop; gear hunting or surging at cruise control; dealer unable to duplicate on first visit; transmission warning light in severe cases
Transmission harsh shift that recurs after one or more PCM/TCM calibration attempts is a textbook Song-Beverly drivability impairment. If a dealer has reflashed the transmission software on two or more occasions without lasting resolution, or if the symptom is logged on three or more repair orders, the owner's file likely supports a lemon-law demand. The fact that Ford has issued multiple TSBs for this specific defect strengthens the 'known defect' argument under California Civil Code §1793.2.
PCM/TCM calibration update per TSB 20-2424 (2020 MY) or TSB 21-2137 (2021 MY) via FDRS. If shudder persists after calibration, inspect torque converter damper and replace as needed. Road test under light throttle at 40-55 mph to verify resolution. Fluid drain and fill with MERCON ULV as preventive measure.
rattling or ticking noise from front of engine for 2-5 seconds on cold start; noise disappears as engine warms up; oil consumption above 1 quart per 1,000 miles; low oil pressure warning light at startup; check engine light with variable cam timing codes (P0010, P0011, P0012, P0014); oil level drops noticeably between oil changes; engine tick that worsens with mileage
Cam phaser rattle and oil consumption that persist after dealer repair attempts represent a powertrain defect impairing the vehicle's use and value. Under Song-Beverly, recurring engine noise or oil loss logged across two or more repair orders within the warranty period can establish eligibility. Owners should request the specific VCT codes from each repair order and document oil level at each dealer visit to build the pattern required for a claim.
Inspect VCT cam phaser locking pins and sprocket per TSB 22-2110. If cold-start rattle exceeds 3 seconds or oil consumption is confirmed >1 qt/1,000 mi, replace cam phaser assembly under powertrain warranty. Verify with oil consumption monitor over 3,000-mile interval post-repair. Use Ford-spec 5W-30 full synthetic and maintain oil change intervals strictly.
touchscreen goes completely black while driving; infotainment system freezes and does not respond to touch input; screen spontaneously reboots mid-drive, requiring 30-90 seconds to recover; navigation system loses route during reboot; backup camera image does not display on restart; Apple CarPlay or Android Auto disconnects when screen reboots; system requires ignition cycle to fully recover; recurring multiple times per week
Recurring infotainment black screen that disables navigation and the backup camera constitutes a functional impairment affecting the safety and use of the vehicle. Under Song-Beverly, two or more dealer repair orders for the same APIM black-screen complaint within the warranty period — where the dealer performs a reflash but the symptom returns — supports a lemon-law claim. Owners should keep copies of each repair order noting the APIM calibration version installed.
APIM software reflash to latest calibration per TSB 21-2231 via FDRS/IDS. If screen freeze or black-screen recurs within 30 days of reflash, replace APIM module. Verify Wi-Fi and Bluetooth operation post-repair. Note: recall-backed rearview camera failures (see iss-10 through iss-46 camera recall rows) are separate defects addressed by specific NHTSA campaigns.
vehicle brakes hard without any obstacle in the path; adaptive cruise control decelerates suddenly on open highway; automatic emergency braking fires under a bridge or overpass; forward collision warning chimes without apparent object; unexpected deceleration in stop-and-go causing near-rear-end collision; Co-Pilot360 system disables itself after repeated phantom events; driver has to quickly override by pressing accelerator to prevent collision from behind
Co-Pilot360 phantom braking at highway speed creates a direct rear-end collision risk from following traffic — a safety impairment of the highest order under Song-Beverly. If the dealer has reflashed the IPMA module and the phantom braking recurs, or if the owner has experienced the event on two or more separate occasions and the dealer logs two repair attempts, the owner has a strong basis for a lemon-law claim. Document each phantom-brake event with date, time, location, and speed.
Update IPMA software to latest calibration per TSB 22-2401 via FDRS. Verify adaptive cruise and AEB function at highway speed post-repair. If phantom braking recurs after update, inspect IPMA sensor alignment and replace IPMA module if misaligned or damaged.
panoramic roof glass shatters without impact or apparent cause; glass fractures while vehicle is parked or at low speed; loud pop or cracking sound followed by glass debris in cabin; glass crumbles onto rear seat occupants; fracture pattern radiates from edge of glass panel; glass shattering on hot days after vehicle has been in direct sun; dealership unable to identify cause of fracture on inspection
Panoramic roof glass shattering constitutes a safety defect — glass debris enters the passenger cabin and creates a hazard for rear-seat occupants. Under Song-Beverly, a single confirmed spontaneous fracture may satisfy the 'substantial impairment of use or safety' threshold, particularly if the dealer replaces the glass but the vehicle experiences a second fracture event. Owners should retain photos of the fracture pattern and request the repair order specifically note 'spontaneous fracture, no impact identified.'
Inspect panoramic Vista Roof glass edge for micro-fractures per TSB 23-2005. Replace glass assembly if fracture is confirmed. Advise owner to avoid rapid temperature changes (e.g., cold water on hot glass). If dealer denies warranty coverage citing 'impact damage,' request documentation of the specific impact point — spontaneous fracture patterns are identifiable.
Apple CarPlay disconnects mid-drive without warning; Android Auto drops connection and reverts to native SYNC 4 interface; wireless projection fails to reconnect automatically after drop; navigation reroute lost when CarPlay disconnects; requires manual reconnection from phone settings each time; drops occur more frequently on longer drives or in warm weather; wired CarPlay works reliably but wireless does not
Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto failure is typically a Functional-tier impairment. It becomes a stronger lemon-law issue when combined with the SYNC 4 black-screen defect (iss-50) — together they establish a recurring pattern of infotainment failure across multiple repair orders. Under Song-Beverly, a cumulative infotainment failure pattern spanning three or more repair attempts can satisfy the 'reasonable number of repair opportunities' standard even for non-safety functional defects.
APIM software update per TSB 22-2199 via FDRS to extend Wi-Fi handshake timeout. Verify wireless CarPlay / Android Auto connectivity post-repair with a 15-minute road test. If drops persist after APIM update, inspect USB-C port integrity and APIM antenna routing.
second-row seat unlatches, tips, or slides unexpectedly; easy-entry switch stuck in down position; easy-entry feature inoperative
Second recall attempt for the same second-row seat switch defect (26V451 expands 25V393); owners repaired under the first campaign already have a documented failed repair attempt, and no full remedy exists until January 2027 — both directly relevant to a California Song-Beverly claim.
Dealers will inspect and replace the bezel around the switch as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed July 27, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in January 2027. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S52. This recall expands Recall 25V393. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 16, 2026.
driver seatback reclines fully rearward on its own after remote unlock, remote start, keyless approach, or a memory seat button press; seat does not return to the stored driving position; second-row occupant pinned by the reclining seatback
A driver seatback that reclines on its own can trap a second-row occupant, a crash and entrapment injury risk rather than a convenience defect. The interim measure disables the feature instead of repairing it, so owners who reported unexpected seat movement before the recall already hold a documented repair history; no permanent remedy is available until roughly October 2026.
Dealers will disable the driver seat module (DSM) feature until parts are available. Once available, the motor will be replaced. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed August 31, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in October 2026. Inoperative power windows are a functional defect affecting a standard safety egress feature. On the 2025 Aviator, if the 25V484 remedy fails to restore full window operation or if windows become inoperative again within 30 days, the owner has grounds for a Song-Beverly claim under the one-repair-attempt rule for brand-new vehicles within their first year.
Dealers will update the Body Control Module (BCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 7, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C33.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
The 2025 Aviator Grand Touring is the newest model year in the lemon-law window; any camera-display failure in the first 18 months/18,000 miles invokes the Song-Beverly rebuttable presumption of lemon status. If the 24V801 remedy is performed and the camera fails again within 30 days, the second recurrence triggers California's one-year express-warranty lemon provision without requiring a prior repair attempt.
The 2025 Aviator Grand Touring frame recall is a first-year recall on a vehicle still squarely within California's lemon-law presumption window. A structural recall requiring significant dealer labor or an extended wait for parts — particularly if the vehicle is out of service for more than 30 days — independently qualifies the owner for a Song-Beverly buyback or replacement regardless of other repair attempts.
Dealers will inspect and tighten the subframe bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Owner notification letters were mailed May 21, 2025. Ford's number for this recall is 25S43.
transmission shifts unexpectedly; hesitation; harsh shift; transmission warning
A transmission that may not engage drive or reverse without warning constitutes a loss-of-drive safety defect. Song-Beverly applies to vehicles still within 4 years/50,000 miles of original retail sale, and the 2025 Aviator Grand Touring falls squarely within that window. Each documented dealer visit for a gear-engagement complaint counts as a repair attempt; two attempts without a fix triggers the statutory presumption of lemon status.
Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission cross member bolts as necessary, free of charge. If the cross member bolts are missing, dealers will replace the cross member and install new bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 29, 2025. A defective trailer hitch assembly is a functional defect for owners who purchased the Aviator for towing capability. Under Song-Beverly, a trailer hitch defect that prevents towing as advertised constitutes a nonconformity affecting the vehicle's use and value. If the 25V687 remedy fails or the hitch remains inoperative after 30 days out of service, buyback eligibility may apply.
Dealers will inspect and tighten the trailer hitch bolts, or replace them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 29, 2025. A windshield defect affecting structural integrity or optical clarity is a safety concern under California Vehicle Code and Song-Beverly. For 2025-2026 Aviator owners, a windshield recall within the first year of ownership combined with any prior service visit for the same condition is sufficient to establish the two-repair-attempt presumption.
Dealers will inspect and replace the windshield as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 6, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. A defective HVAC fan/motor compromises climate control and defogging on the 2026 Aviator Grand Touring. For a first-model-year vehicle, any defect within the first 18 months or 18,000 miles creates a rebuttable presumption of lemon status after a single failed repair attempt. Document every HVAC complaint with a repair order and note whether the dealer was able to duplicate the condition.
Dealers will inspect and secure the instrument panel joints as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S22. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this
transmission shifts unexpectedly; hesitation; harsh shift; transmission warning
A valve body fluid leak that degrades transmission shift quality or causes overheating is a covered nonconformity under Song-Beverly. If the recall remedy (valve body replacement or seal reseal) fails to resolve continuing shift complaints, or if the vehicle was out of service for 30 or more days awaiting parts, the owner has a viable claim for replacement or repurchase without needing to satisfy the two-repair-attempt threshold.
Dealers will replace the transmission main control valve body, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 11, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S19.
backup camera blank; screen goes black in reverse; rearview camera distorted
The 2025 Aviator Grand Touring is a first-year recall for its model year; a safety-critical camera recall within the first year of ownership places the vehicle on strong lemon-law footing. Under Song-Beverly, a single repair attempt for a safety defect that is not completed or that fails within 30 days can establish the buyback presumption without requiring further repair attempts.

Every item below comes from this vehicle's documented defects. The more you recognize, the more a free case review is worth your time.
General legal background only — not legal advice; no attorney-client relationship. Law as of Jun 30, 2026; consult an attorney for guidance specific to your situation.
California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (Cal. Civ. Code §1790 et seq.) protects new-vehicle buyers when a manufacturer cannot conform the vehicle to the express warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts, or when the vehicle is out of service 30 or more cumulative days.
“Could not duplicate” doesn't mean the defect isn't real. Here's exactly what to do to protect a potential California lemon-law claim.
Document the moment it happens. Photos, video, and screenshots of any warning lights — with the date and the mileage.
Get a repair order every visit — even “found nothing.” That paperwork is the foundation of a claim.
Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Note any recall that has no available remedy yet.
Track your out-of-service days. California law counts the cumulative days your vehicle spends in the shop.
Keep loaner & rental records. Alternate-transport paperwork during long repairs matters.
Save everything in one place. Symptoms, dates, repair orders, and every repeat visit — the intermittent ones especially.
The Aviator's most frustrating defects — 10R80 shudder, SYNC 4 black screen, Co-Pilot360 phantom braking, cam phaser cold-start rattle — are intermittent. Dealers frequently cannot replicate them on a short service drive. Here is what to do.
1. DOCUMENT BEFORE EVERY VISIT. Note date, time, ambient temperature, mileage, and driving conditions. For phantom braking, record the specific location (bridge, overpass, gantry) and your speed. A 15-second phone video of the SYNC screen mid-reboot or the cam phaser rattle on cold start is evidence the dealer cannot dismiss.
2. INSIST ON A REPAIR ORDER EVEN IF NOT REPRODUCED. A repair order noting 'customer states transmission shudder — cannot duplicate' still counts as a repair attempt under California law. Do not let the service advisor skip documentation. Every visit must generate a repair order number and written symptom description.
3. CITE THE TSB BY NUMBER. For 10R80: TSBs 20-2424 and 21-2137. For SYNC 4: TSB 21-2231. For phantom braking: TSB 22-2401. For cam phaser: TSB 22-2110. Ask the advisor to confirm whether the applicable software update has been applied.
4. REQUEST A FORD TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTER (TAC) CASE. If the technician cannot replicate the symptom, ask the service manager to open a TAC case. Those notes become part of the vehicle's warranty history accessible in litigation.
5. TRACK OUT-OF-SERVICE DAYS. California Civil Code §1793.2(b) — 30 or more cumulative days out of service for warranty repairs supports a lemon-law presumption. Log every drop-off and pick-up date. Contact Ford Customer Service and get a case number — this creates a corporate-level paper trail separate from dealer records.
The Aviator's 47-recall tally — eleven camera campaigns, seven seat and seat belt recalls, four transmission campaigns — is not typical for a modern luxury SUV. The 2021-2022 intake valve fracture recall (24V635) carries fire risk; the cam phaser rattle and 10R80 shudder affect fundamental drivability; and the Co-Pilot360 phantom braking TSB describes unexpected hard braking at highway speed — a risk to Aviator occupants and following traffic alike.
From a lemon-law standpoint, the Aviator's recall and TSB record is among the most document-rich in the Lincoln lineup. Owners who have kept repair orders have, in many cases, already built the paper trail Song-Beverly requires. If your Aviator has visited the dealer three or more times for any of the issues documented here, a case review is worth your time.

The 2020-2025 Lincoln Aviator has been subject to eleven separate NHTSA rearview camera recalls — more than any other single-generation Ford/Lincoln product in recent memory. The defect manifests as a blank, blue, or distorted image when reversing. Root causes vary by campaign: some involve sensor software errors, others display function software. Ford's remedy in each case is a software update or hardware replacement. If your camera has failed after a prior recall repair, that follow-up visit constitutes a second repair attempt for a safety-backed defect. Document every visit with a repair order and cite the applicable NHTSA campaign number when you drop off the vehicle. Under California's Song-Beverly Act, two or more failed repairs for a safety defect may qualify your vehicle for a replacement or refund.
The 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission in the 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator has a documented shift calibration issue addressed via TSBs 20-2424 and 21-2137. The symptom is a clunk or jerk when engaging Drive from Park, or a shudder at light throttle near highway speed (40-55 mph). Root cause is TCM/PCM calibration drift and, in persistent cases, torque converter damper wear. Ford's remedy is a PCM/TCM software update; if shudder persists, torque converter replacement may be needed. If the dealer has reflashed the transmission software but the harsh shift returns, those visits count as repair attempts under Song-Beverly. The 10R80 also features in four NHTSA recalls: Park disengagement (19V575), Park engagement failure (23V070), loose cross member bolts (25V020), and valve body defects (25V164).
As of June 2026, there is no standalone NHTSA recall for panoramic Vista Roof glass shattering on the Lincoln Aviator. Ford has acknowledged the pattern via TSB 23-2005, directing dealers to inspect the glass edge for micro-fractures and replace the assembly if fracture is confirmed. NHTSA complaint data for 2020-2022 Aviator documents glass fracturing spontaneously while parked or at low speed, with debris falling into the passenger cabin. If your dealer attributes the fracture to 'external impact,' request they identify the specific impact point — spontaneous fracture patterns are distinct from impact-caused breaks. A TSB-acknowledged defect causing safety-relevant glass shattering inside the cabin is a potential Song-Beverly issue if the glass shatters a second time after repair.
Sudden unexpected braking on a clear road in the 2020-2022 Lincoln Aviator is a known Co-Pilot360 defect addressed by Ford TSB 22-2401. The IPMA radar-camera fusion module misidentifies stationary overhead objects — bridge underpasses, highway gantries, overpass shadows — as in-path collision threats, triggering an automatic emergency braking event at highway speed. Ford's remedy is an IPMA software update. If phantom braking has occurred multiple times, or if the dealer has performed the IPMA reflash but braking recurred, those visits constitute repair attempts for a safety defect under Song-Beverly. Document each event with date, location, and speed — two failed repair attempts for ADAS phantom braking is a strong California lemon-law fact pattern.
A rattling or ticking sound from the front of the 3.0L twin-turbo EcoBoost on cold start — lasting 2-5 seconds before quieting — is a known variable cam timing (VCT) cam phaser issue on 2020-2022 Lincoln Aviator. Ford TSB 22-2110 directs dealers to inspect VCT cam phaser locking pins and sprocket. If the cold-start rattle exceeds 3 seconds or oil consumption exceeds ~1 quart per 1,000 miles, the TSB calls for cam phaser assembly replacement under warranty. Untreated phaser wear can cause cam lobe and journal scoring. Additionally, NHTSA Recall 24V635 covers 2021-2022 Aviator intake valve fracture — a separate engine defect with fire risk. Bring the vehicle to the dealer with onset conditions and oil consumption data; request TSB 22-2110 and/or recall 24V635 be noted in the repair order.
With 47 NHTSA recalls as of mid-2026, the Lincoln Aviator (2020-2026) has one of the most extensive recall records in the modern Lincoln lineup. Under California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, you may qualify if: (a) the same safety defect (airbag, steering, camera, fuel system, phantom braking) required two or more repair attempts; (b) any defect substantially impairing use required four or more attempts; or (c) the vehicle was out of service 30 or more cumulative days for warranty work. The Aviator's eleven camera recalls, seven seat recalls, and four transmission recalls mean many owners have unknowingly accumulated qualifying attempts. Gather your repair orders and request a free case review — no cost unless you prevail.
