The RZ 450e's most frustrating problems are intermittent software faults — and Lexus dealers are known to close repair orders as 'unable to duplicate' when a fault does not appear on a single short test drive. Here is what to do:
1. Put every complaint in writing before drop-off. Email the service advisor the exact symptom, conditions (temperature, state of charge, time since ignition), date, and mileage. This creates a paper trail the dealer cannot dispute.
2. Request a copy of the repair order every visit. California law entitles you to a written order documenting the complaint, work performed, and parts used. A 'could not reproduce' response still counts as a repair attempt under Song-Beverly.
3. Ask explicitly about open recalls and TSBs. The RZ 450e has at least four active recalls (25V577, 25V744, 23V865, and 26V393 for 2026 models) plus infotainment TSBs. If any campaign is incomplete, demand it be done first, and confirm in writing the software version was updated.
4. Capture failures on video. A 60-second clip of the defroster active with no warm air and a fogged windshield survives 'cannot duplicate.' Same for a frozen backup camera.
5. Save all roadside assistance and tow records. Every day the RZ is unavailable due to a warranty issue — including a dead 12V battery — is an out-of-service day. 30 or more cumulative days triggers an independent lemon-law presumption in California.
