In September 2022, Land Rover testing a pedestrian warning system discovered that it’s too quiet. To ensure that the fifth-generation Range Rover and brand-new Range Rover Sport could emit the required PWS sound levels, a stop-shipment order was issued.Land Rover’s Product Safety & Compliance Committee was entrusted with investigating, and an engineering team was brought in to thoroughly determine the magnitude of this issue.
Between October 2022 and November 2022, both plug-in hybrids and full-electric automobiles were researched, including the Jaguar I-Pace. The engineers were advised that certain previous-generation Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles, as well as the Jaguar I-Pace, could be affected by this minor issue.
According to documents submitted with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, sound files installed in such automobiles are to blame for this problem, which may land Jaguar Land Rover in hot water if not addressed. The issue was escalated to the Recall Determination Committee, which agreed to update the sound files to guarantee that the PWS emits the correct sound levels.
The Recall Determination Committee had no choice because the low sound levels of the pedestrian warning system violate federal motor vehicle safety standard 141, which specifies minimum sound standards for hybrid and electric vehicles. On the plus side, Jaguar Land Rover is not aware of any recorded accidents, injuries, fires, warranty claims, or field reports concerning this issue.
On February 9th, dealers in the United States will be required to update the audio amplifier software at no cost to the owners of the recalled vehicles. Owners of the affected Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and I-pace models will be contacted by first-class mail by March 24th.
