The case

Screeching brakes at 559 miles, back again a week later — plus a trunk trim that kept coming loose

Our client leased a new 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53. At 559 miles, it went back to the dealer for very loud screeching whenever the brakes were applied.

The dealer verified the brake noise and replaced the front pads. A week later, at 871 miles, the brakes were loud again, and both front and rear pads were re-prepped. The brake noise returned later in ownership. Separately, the trunk-lid trim between the taillights came loose, was re-mounted as goodwill, and came loose again, so it was replaced under warranty.

The turning point

Why the manufacturer paid

On a $79,000 performance car, repeated brake repairs in the first 1,000 miles and recurring trim failures meant the vehicle wasn't what was promised, and the manufacturer couldn't fix it right the first time.

The result

How it ended

Mercedes-Benz repurchased the CLE 53 and paid off the $66,473.06 lease balance. Our client received $22,552.54: $17,404.68 in statutory damages plus $5,147.86 in civil penalties/additional recovery.

What this case shows

You don't need 30 days in the shop to have a claim. Repeated verified defects early in ownership matter.
