The case

Tire-pressure system failed three times in 2,500 miles, then the Jeep started stalling — 60 countable days in the shop

Our client leased a new 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe. At 1,708 miles, the low-tire-pressure warning began cycling on at freeway speed. That was the start of six trips to the dealer.

The tire-pressure monitoring system kept losing contact with all four sensors. The dealer replaced the RF hub module, couldn't reproduce the fault on the next visit, then traced a weak signal to the remote-start antenna and replaced it. FCA later issued safety recall 56C for the RF hub antenna wiring. After a software update the Jeep began stalling. The electronic shift module was losing communication because a wire had pushed out of its terminal. On the last visit, a worn steering damper was causing shaking at freeway speeds.

The repair record

60 countable days out of service

Six visits and 61 days in the shop, 60 of them countable. Two single visits lasted 12 days and one lasted 18. Every repair order fell within the 18-month / 18,000-mile presumption period.

  1. 0112 days

    1,708 miles

Low tire pressure warning cycling on while driving on the freeway

    What the dealer did

Found loss of TPMS communication (DTCs C1501-C1504); replaced the RF hub (RFH) module and programmed sensors

The turning point

Why the manufacturer paid

At 30 cumulative days out of service within the presumption period, California law presumes a vehicle is a lemon. This Jeep reached twice that, with verified, safety-related defects including stalling and a tire-pressure fault tied to a recall.

The result

How it ended

FCA repurchased the Jeep and paid off the $41,185.80 lease balance. Our client received $16,574.98: $16,259.26 in statutory damages plus $315.72 in civil penalties/additional recovery.

What this case shows

Days out of service add up fast. Keep every repair order, even for 'could not duplicate' visits, because those days can count.
