The case

Radio blackouts, dead CarPlay, a blown speaker and unresponsive steering-wheel controls — five visits in four months

Our client paid $45,600 for a new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado LT. Within a year, the audio system started failing: loud static from the amplifier, a distorted speaker, and steering-wheel buttons that didn't respond.

The dealer replaced the right front speaker and the steering-wheel control switch for internal faults. The problems spread: the radio screen went black, Apple CarPlay stopped working, and the volume couldn't be adjusted. The dealer verified intermittent radio failures and replaced and reprogrammed the radio receiver. A week later the truck was back again with the same radio, CarPlay and steering-control complaints.

The turning point

Why the manufacturer paid

Defects don't have to be dramatic to count. The truck had repeated, documented failures in the same system across five repair orders, and the manufacturer couldn't make it right.

The result

How it ended

GM paid $57,169.13 to our client: $38,338.27 in statutory damages (the purchase price less the statutory mileage offset and accessories) plus $18,830.87 in civil penalties/additional recovery.

What this case shows

Repeated electrical and infotainment defects can still be a lemon, especially when the dealer keeps replacing parts and the problem keeps coming back.
