Founded in 2006 by Hovanes Margarian, we focus exclusively on lemon law, dealer fraud, and automotive class actions. For 20 years we have fought manufacturers and dealers on behalf of California consumers, recovering $400M+ across 6,000+ cases.
The firm was founded in 2006 with a specific idea behind it: California consumers up against vehicle manufacturers and dealers deserve representation that knows the automotive industry as well as it knows the law.
Hovanes Margarian co-founded a nationwide automobile sales and leasing brokerage while still in law school. That first-hand exposure to the inside of the automotive industry, including how manufacturers and dealers actually operate, became the foundation for a law firm built around one practice area: protecting consumers in automotive cases.
Twenty years later, that focus has produced $400M+ in recoveries across more than 6,000 cases, and a deep familiarity with how each major manufacturer and dealer defends these cases in California.
We represent California consumers in three closely related areas of automotive consumer law, and we don’t take cases outside them. The decision to specialize is deliberate.
Defective vehicles the manufacturer cannot repair after a reasonable number of attempts, under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. Learn more →
Deceptive practices by California auto dealers, from yo-yo financing and odometer rollback to title washing and salvage non-disclosure. Learn more →
Cases brought on behalf of large groups of consumers affected by the same manufacturer defect or practice. Learn more →
Manufacturers and dealers have specialized legal teams. They know which firms file lawsuits and which ones won’t. They know which firms can afford to take a case to trial and which ones will fold for the first reasonable offer.
A firm that handles one or two lemon law cases a year doesn’t develop the institutional knowledge to push back effectively. After 20 years filing cases against the same manufacturers and dealers, we know what each one typically offers at each stage, what defenses they raise, and what makes them write a fair settlement check.
That knowledge directly benefits the consumer. It’s the difference between accepting the first offer and pushing for what the law actually entitles you to.
In 2019, the firm built its own in-house vehicle inspection facility, the Margarian Garage, attached to its main office in Glendale. When a case warrants it, the Garage gives us the capability to physically inspect, diagnose, and document defects in support of case preparation and litigation, giving us evidence most firms simply don’t have.
The Garage isn’t used on every case. Many lemon law cases are well-documented through dealer repair records. But for harder-to-document defects, contested condition issues, and cases where the manufacturer is disputing whether a defect exists, the Garage is a real advantage. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes. Every case is evaluated on its individual merits. Outcomes vary based on the manufacturer, defect, repair history, and case posture. Attorney fees in qualifying lemon law cases are paid separately by the manufacturer upon a successful outcome under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.
